FUNDECOIPA offer a broad range of tourist activities in the community Arútam and Arútam Rainforest Reserve. The 2625 acre reserve is located right next to the Shuar community Arútam where the tourists are accommodated. This provides an excellent opportunity to learn explore the Amazon forest and to learn about the Shuar culture at the same time. Furthermore we can arrange visits to the nearby 500 acre biological station, MUSAP and other neighboring communities.

We offer both short and long term visits for individuals and groups. Normal visitors stay 2-4 days in the community Arútam while making trips into the Arútam Forest Reserve. Home stays with Shuar families can also be arranged for visitors who want to stay longer and getting to know more about everyday life for the Shuar people. Our guides are locals indigenous Shuar from the community and they know the forest, plants and animals very well as well of the use of the medicinal plants.

Balancing

The Reserve can be visited by everybody. Longer treks into the forest interior, however, requires the visitor to be in a good physical condition and able to cope with rustic living conditions and basic food.

For visitors who wish to spend more time in a Shuar community than the normal tourist, we offer the opportunity to stay with a Shuar family for up to a month (possibly more). This type of stay is for visitors who want to unwind, read or write in a relaxed environment, while having the opportunity to participate in the daily activities of a Shuar family, learn about Shuar culture and the Amazon.
