The activities of FUNDECOIPA and the Shuar communities are depending to a great extent on external funding. You can significantly help support our work, the Shuar communities and their rainforest by giving a donation to one of our programs. Donations can me made from our donate page.

Educational program

Education is the most important livelihood factor to combat poverty for conservation to success. Primary education is far from available to all Shuar kids and even worse when talking about higher education. The reason is lack of economic means. Although costs and fees seem small in a Western sense they mean great obstacles to the Shuar families, that often have 3-8 children. For example, timber sales rise just before school season in order to pay for the uniforms and materials. By donating to the education program you can help raise the level of education in the communities. We will distribute the donations once a year in February before the school season.

Purchase of rainforest

We are constantly looking to buy rainforest in order to enlarge the reserve and to buy tracts of forest that will unite the reserve with conservation minded neighbors. A larger reserve can help sustain more viable populations of endangered wildlife and provide a platform for a native animal release program.

Buy and acre (4050 square meters)                   40 USD

Examples of what 1 acre of forest means in terms of wildlife

Mammals
Agouti                                 2 acres
Howler monkey                5 acres
White lipped peccary   6 acres
Coati                                  16 acres
Red brocket deer          20 acres
Tapir                                   60 acres
Jaguar                             250 acres
Birds
Great tinamou                  3 acres
Spix guan                            4 acres
Salvins curassow            15 acres

The numbers above are density estimates based on average density estimates from 14 scientific papers. The numbers above therefore means that there is e.g. 1 agouti per 2 acres or 1 tapir per 60 acres.
