FUNDECOIPA is short for Foundation for Indigenous Community Development in Pastaza. We are a non-profit community based NGO founded with the aim of creating sustainable development in the indigenous communities of Pastaza. The foundation owns and manages the 2200 acre Arutam Rainforest Reserve and provides tourism, volunteer and research opportunities within the reserve and Shuar community Arutam as well as the surrounding communities

The volunteer program

The volunteer program is for people who want to actively engage in community and grass root development and conservation, get hands on experience with the Amazon and learn about the Shuar culture. The program will not only let you travel to a new country, visit wonderful places and live with people from different cultures.

Tourism

FUNDECOIPA offer a broad range of tourist activities in the community Arútam and Arútam Rainforest Reserve. The 2625 acre reserve is located right next to the Shuar community Arútam where the tourists are accommodated. This provides an excellent opportunity to learn explore the Amazon forest and to learn about the Shuar culture at the same time.

Arutam Forest Reserve

FUNDECOIPA owns and manage a 2625 acre large reserve that surrounds the community Arútam. The community and reserve is located at the base of the Andean Foothills at an altitude varying from 600 to 1000 meters above sea level.The reserve lies in one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. The reserve is connected to another 250.000 acres of communally owned forest which stretches towards the undisturbed forest into Peru and Brazil.
